Moulin Rouge- Directed by Baz Luhrmann in 2001 |
Reasons why Moulin Rouge is Postmodern:
1. The film has a non-linear narrative as at the start of the film we see the main character Christian writing his story and then we jump back in time to one year ago and then by the end of the film we have caught back up to present day when Christian finishes writing his story.

2. Moulin Rouge uses a wide variety of unique camera techniques and editing techniques. One example is the edit and camera shots used in the show at the beginning of the film.

3. In the film the story of the show that Christian writes ends up reflecting the story of the film. Satine's character chooses the dukes character which she initially does and also there is mention that someone should die at the end and in the film someone does end up dying at the end.

4. The characters are from a mix of genres from actors and singers to characters such as Kylie Monogue's fairy character.

5. The use of intertextuality in terms of the songs used is postmodern because a lot of famous, well known songs are used. The songs used are by artists including: Elton John, Randy Crawford and Madonna.
