Mulholland Drive- Directed by David Lynch in 2001 |
Reasons why Mulholland Drive is postmodern:
1. Hyper reality- Mulholland Drive is very hyper-real is terms of what happens in the film, from the opening scene to the stage show scenes. The concept of Diane as Betty is also very hyper real as we are made to believe that what we're seeing is reality when in fact it isn't.

2. Non- Linear- Mulholland Drive is non-linear because although the beginning of the film seems to be playing out in chronological order, by the end we have jumped between different realities and time periods.

Alternate reality |
3. Mulholland Drive is also highly artistic in the way it looks, from how the shots are put together to the colours and lighting that are used

4. Mulholland Drive refers to and references a lot of Hollywood culture, including the poster of Rita Hayworth, from which Rita gets her name.

5. Mulholland Drive makes direct references to other genres, some characters are very stereotypical of a particular genre, for example, the cowboy
