What If Metropolis - Reflective Statement
Overall I am very happy with how this project went and how my final scene turned out. I am pleased that I was able to work at a steady pace throughout the whole of this project, which allowed me to have time to figure out any problems with my scene before crit day and overall be less stressed out towards the end.
I am also pleased with how I successfully managed to bring my concept art to life using Maya. I am quite surprised with the amount of things I've been able to learn in and about Maya in this short amount of time, as before the start of this course I had never even heard of Maya before!
The things I found the trickiest in terms of Maya was laying out the UV's for my most complex building shape- the temple. Also getting the lighting right for my scene as for my concept art I had choosen such a specific, bold lighting choice.
From this project I have learned that I still need to improve on my design skills and I need to learn to think about every aspect of the thing that I am designing. For example, windows and doors on buildings and materials used.
One thing that I would say I need to work on in Maya, especially for when I start making an actual moving animation is the positioning of all of my objects in a scene as in my final scene for this project it would look very weird from any other angle other than the one camera angle that I set up because, for example, the temple is at a bit of an angle so it was positioned correctly for the camera but it meant it wasn't flat on the ground and therefore the floor lights are actually positioned slightly under the temple which would obviously not work if say a character was walking around in my scene.
Overall I enjoyed this project, and I also enjoyed working in Maya independently for the first time, having previously only followed tutorials.
