What If Metropolis - Thumbnails 76-87 + Further Development

This is some further development for Estrella following my OGR. I focused on 'The Constellation' because I think that's what I want the focus to be in my final scene. I think I will still need to develop the houses/entertainment sector of Estrella more too though because they will at least be in the background of my final scene - possibly as part of the matt painting.

I needed to work on incorporating more of Mirós actual work and artistic style into my city. I started off by collecting some more reference images: (Phil had given me a few images as examples and also said I should look up ‘blobitecture’)

I started off by creating custom shapes of shapes found in Mirós work by using the selection tool to select specific objects and turn them into custom shapes that I can then use to create thumbnails (I learned how to do this is in our photoshop lesson on Monday). I really like this technique because it allowed me to use shapes that I might not have necessarily used or put together otherwise.

Focusing on The Constellation, I used the custom shapes that I created to create these ‘blob’, asymmetrical building shapes that I could potentially develop further into designs for The Constellation.

  1. Okay! good stuff - but I think you're making them too complex too quicky - the point about blobitecture is that actually the shapes are very strong - not chaotic - 76 and 82 have the beginnings of something interesting, because they're less congested - try a system whereby you work in combinations of 3 shapes to begin with and just really sweat them in Photoshop - so try as many combinations as possible before you move on - and keep one eye on Joan Miro's paintings as you work :) This is an exciting development, Em - onwards!
