Character Design: Adding Colour

In today's lesson we added colour to our characters that we drew in Illustrator last week.

I learned that to colour in Illustrator you use the 'live paint bucket' tool which allows you to easily fill in sections of your drawings

I started by simply adding colour to my line drawing

I then created multiple versions of my character in order to try out different colour schemes

I then learned about adding shadows and highlights to my drawing in Illustrator, and also how to add shapes with a gradient, which is what the orange shapes on the characters face are.

I am quite pleased with this outcome as it looks as I imagined, although I think I need some more practise on working out where the shadows and highlights fall on a character/object etc.
