Perspective Exercises
I decided to start off my Invisible Cities project by doing some perspective drawings, which will help me when I start to draw thumbnail sketches and also with my final concept paintings.
I started by practising One-Point Perspective. Every parallel line has a vanishing point, at which they ultimately meet. I drew three different boxes in different points on the page in order to explore what would happen to the parallel lines, and what the finished boxes would look like when all of the parallel lines meet at the single vanishing point.
I then tried out Two-Point Perspective! This technique is like you're looking at the box from one of the corners, and it uses two vanishing points- one on each side of the page, as you need a vanishing point for each set of parallel lines.
Lastly, I tried out Three Point Perspective- this technique allows you to accurately draw buildings/objects as if you are looking up at them (it also works if you're looking down at something). You need three vanishing points, two along the horizon line (one at each end) and then one above or below the horizon line depending if you are wanting to look up or down at the building/object. I also tried out shading the sides of the box to make it look more three-dimensional.
I think that these exercises will be very helpful to refer to when I am drawing my final concept paintings because I will need to draw all types of buildings/objects that will need to be drawn accurately from different angles and perspectives.
Hey Emily - 2 things! 1) Take a look at your blog settings, as I'm writing this comment in a crazy cartoon font! I think when it publishes on your blog, it's less crazy, but what I'm seeing as I type is 'Argh!'
ReplyDelete2) Time to try your perspective exercises with some more complex forms - think 'domes' for example... have a bash! :D
Hi thank you, I think I have fixed the font as it looks normal as I'm typing now!
ReplyDeleteAnd ok I'll for sure try out some more complex forms!
