First Life Drawing Class ~ 20/9/17

Today was our first life drawing class. The first drawing that I did- top left hand corner of the first page- I was quite happy with as my first drawing. The rest of the drawings on that page are quick sketches which took between 1-5 minutes. I prefer these drawings as they are in charcoal (whereas the first one is in pencil) because I feel like the charcoal allowed me to be more free with the lines that I made.

At the end of the class, we had 20 mins to do a sketch of a seated pose, which was more difficult to get the proportions right. However I like this drawing because I focused more on the tones and shadows I saw on the model and so I think the drawing ended up looking more three dimensional.

  1. I agree that the charcoal drawings look much more free - I think charcoal always allows the artist to be loose with their mark making especially with those quicker poses. I recommend trying out as many different tools and materials as you can, you may find out you like using materials you haven't used before :)
